Bump Brief Series #7

Bump Brief #7: 10 weeks

How far along? 10 weeks, baby is the size of a kumquat!
Total weight gain/loss: Still nothing really, all baby bump.
Maternity clothes? If I'm at home, I'm in pajamas. If I go out,it's maternity pants at least. I can still fit in regular pants, but they are so uncomfortable and most of the time I'm doing stuff with Nate. It's so much more pleasant to play with my son when I don't have a button stabbing me in the stomach.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Fine this week, no complaints.
Best moment this week: I had a couple awesome moments this week! 1. A friend who sells DoTerra let me make a nausea blend mist. It has worked wonders! Mix of wild orange, peppermint, lemon, and ginger. I highly dislike ginger, but I suck it up not to feel nauseous after naps or at random times. Thank you, Martha! 2. Getting over how big I am so early. I don't know why, but I was, for lack of a better work, ashamed of my body this time. I felt like such a hypocrite because I LOVE preggo bellies and I think ALL of them are awesome. I mean, honestly, who else can say they grew a human inside of them!? It takes a lot of work...and space! Just because I was smaller with Nate doesn't mean I will look or feel the same this pregnancy. Realizing this was one of the best moments I could have had for myself.
Miss Anything? Family and friends! So excited to see them in a few weeks for the holidays!
Movement: no
Food cravings: Frosted Flakes. Where do these cravings come from!?
Anything making you queasy or sick: Appetite is coming back. Only thing that made me queasy is Nate's chicken salad he wanted as a snack. YUCK!
Have you started to show yet: Yes.
Gender: Still to early. Jason seems to think it's a girl. I think it's another boy.
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood: Happy! Started Christmas shopping and Crossfit Mom. Worked out 3 times this week. Would've done another 1-2 days, but I did something to my thigh. Had to take a few rest days.

Bump Brief Series #6

Bump Brief #6: 9 weeks

How far along? 9 weeks, baby is the size of a strawberry!
Total weight gain/loss: Still staying at that 1lb gain. I'll take it!
Maternity clothes? On and off, depends on the day.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Night sleep is better, getting up only 1-2 times. I feel like a need a daytime nap, but i wake up super nauseous. Going to try to get some energy other ways to avoid naps.
Best moment this week: Seeing my old college roommate and her preggo belly! It is SO fun to be pregnant with your friends. She is 2 months ahead of me, but we are pretty much the same size. ;)
Miss Anything? Not really this week. Oh, except I was invited to a girl's night of hookah and drinks and declined. I guess I miss having the option to go or not. I definitely could go, but I wouldn't be much fun.
Movement: no
Food cravings: Bagels? I pretty much eat one for breakfast every morning.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Foods still don't sound all that great, but seriously, after an afternoon nap I feel horrible.
Have you started to show yet: Yes, especially if I wear maternity clothes. Defines the belly more.
Gender: ????
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood: Calm, slightly more energetic. Ready to start CrossfitMom again.

The Bee Sting Incident

This just happened. Nate got his first bee sting. Spoiler alert...we survived. It was a rough whole 4-8 minutes though.

How it happened:

Nate went to put his milk cup on the patio table so he could get back in his swing. He sets the cup down and then starts crying. Not a whiny cry. A hurt cry. Parents know this sound very well. It's a distinct cry that makes your stomach drop like you just went on the Free Fall ride at Magic Mountain.

He was crying and yelling, "POKE! POKE!" Here is Hawaii, we have these plants that have prickles on them. They hurt like a b*#ch. If you step on them hard enough, you will bleed. This is what they look like. Sandbur is the common name.
I look over and he has his foot up on his tippy toe and I could see something on his foot. I thought it was a nail at first because it looked really big and dark. I ran over to him and picked him up so he wouldn't step down again. I put him on a chair and realized it was a bee.

The entire bee was attached to his foot. I grabbed it and the stinger was still in. I took that out next. He was still crying. And then it was my panic mom mode because I have never personally been stung by a bee and have NO IDEA what to do for it!

Jason told me to make a paste with water and baking soda. I put WAY too much water. We applied it to Nate's foot and it was instant relief for him. back to his smiley self and swinging away.

We tried to ice it as well, but Nate started kicking like a maniac. Baking soda and water mixture worked perfect. We took a bath with no complaints.

What is your go-to remedy for bee stings?

I Have a Two Year Old.

Two days ago my son turned two. TWO!! How can such a small number make such a big impact? I mean, he is still VERY young, but it just sounds so old! And how did it happen so fast!? It seems like yesterday I was finding out I was pregnant, then labor, then newborn, and now 2!? It really is incredible how fast time goes.

Would I change it? Of course not! I LOVED Nate as a newborn, all cuddly, small, and my boobs could seriously heal all. But now he has grown into such a character. He is stubborn, funny, smart, and will play outside for hours! He loves to climb, paint, help me cook and clean, trains, and his swing. Annnnddd...we can somewhat hold a conversation. It is so cute! My favorite is when we are talking and he doesn't understand something I say.

Example:
Me: "Nate, did you know so and so and so?"
Nate: "huh?"
Me: So and so can do this and goes like that..."
Nate: "HUH!?"
Me: "So and so. It does this and that."
Nate: "OOOHHHHHH"

It is hilarious. Whether he understands or not, that is how the convo goes down.

Anyways. Nate had a blasty blast on his birthday.

He woke up to his playroom filled with balloons and tons of presents. He went straight to playing with balloons. He opened his presents and was pretty overwhelmed with the whole situation. He was happy and ripping paper like it was Christmas morning, but he couldn't really tell what was in the actual boxes until we opened those too.

We played with new toys until nap then headed out to Chuck E. Cheese. Where a kid Nate can be a kid Nate. He LOVES Chuck E Cheese. Not scared at all. He played games, danced the "Chuckie shuffle", got a free slice of cake, and was sang to by the crew.

And then the day was over. Nate was officially two. No more one year old. To be honest, I was more emotional with him turning 2 than 1. Maybe it's the preggo hormones, but it hit me hard. I am just glad he had such a wonderful day. He is so loved. Happy birthday my little boy.

Bump Brief Series #5

Bump Brief #5: 8 weeks

Hi, friends! I/we have officially gotten through 2 months of this pregnancy! *high five!*

How far along? 8 weeks, baby is the size of a Pecan!

Total weight gain/loss: 1lb. I fluctuate between 144-146.

Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Slept fairly well this week! Still tired mid-day, but my mom and her husband are visiting so I have had a nice break.
Best moment this week: Nate keeps saying it's a sister. Obviously we don't know yet, but it is SO cute!
Miss Anything? Bathing suit body.

Bump Brief Series #4

Bump Brief #4: 7 weeks

How far along? 7 weeks, baby is the size of a raspberry!
Total weight gain/loss: 1lb. I fluctuate between 144-146.
Maternity clothes? I wore some maternity shorts with the short elastic waist. So comfy. Other than that, I wore regular clothes this week.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Sleeping decent. I wake up with a lot of energy, think I will be productive for the day. Then noon comes around and I feel like I've been hit by a truck. So. Tired.
Best moment this week: Had my first doctor's appointment! It really wasn't exciting though. It was basically just getting you set up in the OB/GYN system, meet a nurse, check vitals, blood and urine. No ultrasound or anything. I was a little disappointed they wouldn't even check for the heartbeat, but oh well. Next time!
Miss Anything? Yes. The want for food. Nothing sounds good and when I do eat i eat a couple bites then feel sick.
Movement: no
Food cravings: Cheese has taken the back burner. I'll eat it, but don't crave it. Don't crave much this week...too much nausea.
Anything making you queasy or sick:  It's not horrible, but it lingers. Bad taste in your mouth feeling. Not cool.
Have you started to show yet: I think I am, definitely bigger this time around. I'm sure it doesn't look like it to others though.
Gender: ????
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood: Happy with occasional tiredness.

I have no picture this week. I think I need to start taking them in the morning. When I actually am ready for the day and don't look like I haven't showered in days. I usually blog after Nate goes to bed, so I'm already in pajamas. Not a pretty sight to see week after week. Here's a little picture of what baby looks like...thanks Google.

So, I've made it another week. I love sharing these little tiny tidbits with you. It's interesting to see how much or little can change in 7 short days. Nathan is excited. I really think he is going to be a great big brother. We talk about the baby a lot. I don't think he fully understands a real human will be sticking around for the rest of his life in 7-8 months, but for now he is happy.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and your Monday wasn't too painful!

Best moment this week: Nothing pregnancy related really, but Nate has been SO good this week! I hope I didn't just jinx it.
Miss Anything? So...I read a couple articles on decaf. Ugh. I swear, nothing that is good...is good for you. Before I read them, i was going to drink a cup of decaf a day. Now I am going to limit it to 1-3 a week. Fridays are a definite coffee day.

Expecting. Change.

I've haven't written in a blog post in months because I started to hate my blog name. Strange, huh? I feel like it doesn't represent me, my family, my life. I'm still not actually loving it. But do I create an entire new one? Deal with it? It is driving me crazy that something so little can make me not want to write.

And I have a lot to write about. Maybe nothing intellectual or mind-blowing, but I do have things to write about. Parenting, marriage, tantrums, food, Army life, and most recently...PREGNANCY!!

That's right, we are expecting baby K numero dos. It has been a long road to getting those two lines on a stick. Over a year of trying, short deployments, and a lot of negative pregnancy tests. The husband had no concerns. He knew it would happen. I on the other hand, took the negative tests more to heart. I cried. But then I remained positive and went on to the next month of trying. I enjoyed the son we have. I want so bad to give him a sibling. And now we can.

Some may say I am getting ahead of myself. I am barely 4 weeks along. But after months and months of trying, I can't contain the excitement! I why shouldn't I, right!? We are having a baby! Some question telling everyone before the "safe period" of twelve weeks is up. I did wait with my son. This pregnancy is different. It is my second and most likely my last. I want to share it with everyone. I want to document it all. I want to embrace it. But what if something bad goes wrong? Should I hide that too? I can't go through this pregnancy thinking something might go wrong.

So here I am. Back. Maybe? Unless I decide to create a new blog with a new name. But for now I am back. Happy October!

A day in the life of....

**There are a lot of pictures in this post*

I have been wondering what people think I do all day. Since we now live in Hawaii, do people think I just go to the beach, sip drinks with umbrellas, and hula dance everyday? Although that would be nice, that is SO not my life. If I am friends with you on Facebook or you follow me on Instagram, you know most of my posts are food and Nate. That is pretty much my life. I like to stay busy with Nate and get out as much as possible. Our stay here in "paradise" will not last forever so we try to take advantage, but most of our days are full of organized chaos.

This is what today was like for us:

6:30: Nate wakes up. Change a diaper, get his milk cup, go to playroom.
6:45: Read books, watch videos of Nate on my phone (watching himself might be his favorite activity).
7: 10: Outdoor play. Pool, cozy coupe, water table.

7: 45: Breakfast
8:00: Change diaper, change clothes
8:05: Easter egg sensory. I let him do whatever with them for awhile, then I put puffs inside, let him shake them, and eat them if he wanted.

8: 30: Clean up eggs. Blocks. He is finally getting the concept of stacking and attaching them without getting frustrated.

8:45: Papasan Chair climbing. It started raining again, so instead of more outdoor time I took the cushion off the papasan and let me climb all over that. He had a blast!

9:10: Vacuum living room, guest room, Nate's room. He LOVES to vacuum and I got some cleaning done.

9:30: Banana snack.
9:40: Easter egg sensory (again). His choice...just walked right over to the bucket.
9:50: Tantrum. He wanted to use the Easter egg bucket as a step stool to climb. I wouldn't allow it so a meltdown ensued.

10:00: Freeplay. Stacking toy, shapes, cars, etc.

10:15: Easter eggs
10:30: Stacking toy, electronic toys (laptop, phone, camera, etc.)

11:00: Shoes! He tries on all the shoes, tries to walk, runs, gets a different shoes. Loves this "game".

11:30: Change diaper. Lay down for nap. Usually I lay him down closer to 11:45-12, but he was showing signs of being tired.

**I worked on this blog post while he napped**

12:45: Last minute babysitting. Eli arrives!
1:00: Nate wakes up.
1:05: Play for Eli and lunch for Nate.
1:20: Play with both boys.

The boys looking for the lizard.

Playing "restaurant".

4:00: Eli leaves. Snack for Nate, Free play.
4:30: Start dinner. I hate this time. It is the most stressful, chaotic, meltdown time of my day. I took a few pictures to give you a glimpse...
Cutting veggies while Nate is playing on the floor.
\
Nate destroying cabinets.

Nate has a meltdown because he can't help cut the veggies.

I pick him up to start the pasta and I get a colander hat.

Nate has a meltdown because I won't let him touch the stove.

I wrap Nate because he is driving me insane.

5:20: Start eating dinner. It's a mess.

5:40: Outdoor play.
6:00: Skype with my mom.
6:30: Bathtime.

6:45: Lotion and prescription oil and pajamas. Bedtime stories. Brushing teeth.

7:00: Nate goes to sleep. I clean the kitchen.
7:20: Relax.

And that's that. It wasn't a bad day, just non-stop and we were home all day. Dinner time is by far my least favorite time. I dread it. Nate has at least 2-5 meltdowns in less than an hour, mostly because he wants to help doing things that are just not safe. I know he doesn't understand, but it is SO hard not to get frustrated.

Does Hawaii seem so wonderful now? It is still pretty amazing. The amount of outdoor time, even at home, is one of my favorite parts of Hawaii. The fact that Nate can play in his pool at 7:00am is the best!

Can someone bring me a margarita now?
